Matt joined the BHR family earlier this season and has been an asset to the team since the day he started. We chatted with him this week, take a look at his interview below:
Name: Matt Pitts
Position: Truck Chief / Car Chief
Hometown: Bismarck, Illinois
Years in racing: 13
Q: What is your favorite racing moment? A: I was working at GMS Racing, and we won Bristol Motor Speedway with Sam Mayer. There’s just something about winning at The Coliseum. It’s a pretty cool place and a dream of everyone to win there.
Q: What got you interested in working in racing? A: I’ve been around racing my entire life. My uncle is actually in the Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame, and my cousin runs late models now.
Q: Who has had the greatest influence on you and your career? A: Bobby Dotter. I really respect his opinion. He’s taught me a lot.
Q: Where did you work before coming to BHR? A: GMS Racing.
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job? A: I get paid to work on race cars. I’d say that’s a pretty cool job.
Q: What’s your favorite city to visit? A: St. Louis. It’s always a lot of fun when we go there.
Q: What are your hobbies away from the shop? A: My son and I have chickens, so we’re always working on the chicken coop. It’s kind of our little thing.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant to eat at on the road? A: Hard 8 BBQ in Texas.
Q: Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster? A: Tiny elephant.
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? A: I’d say having intuition would be a cool superpower. You’d be able to see what’s about to happen.
Q: If your life was a TV show, what would be the name of the show? A: It’s not really a name, but it’s my moto in life: If you’re going to be dumb, you have to be tough or go big or go home.
Q: Do you have any superstitions? A: I definitely do. No green race cars, the number 13, and no peanuts at the race track.
